Beautiful Doodles of every size

Cavapoochon Puppies at 4 weeks old

Giggle Tails breeds Cavapoochon puppies and Irish Doodle puppies for families looking for their new best friend. Whether you are looking for a mini doodle (20 pounds or less) or a mid-size Doodle (40 ish pounds) Giggle Tails has the puppy you’re looking for.

A Doodle is not an “Adopt it and forget it” type of decision. These purposefully-mixed-breed puppies require lots of love and attention, a person/family to love, and regular grooming. They are healthy and vigorous pets with long life-spans, but they need companionship to be happy and regular grooming to be beautiful.

Doodles require brushing and a de-matting comb at least 3-4 times per week and after every time they get wet. This is INCREDIBLY important for a healthy, beautiful coat. Watch the video below to help to understand how matting “hides” from our eyes.

The coat may look fine from the outside, but when you get to the groomer you will see that the groomer’s razor cannot “trim” the longer hair. The mats underneath will prevent it, and the pup will need to be shaved.

This can be hard for any Doodle Parent - your beautiful, fluffy friend looks so different! But don’t worry; the coat will grow back! Just be sure to keep those mats out from now on!

A Mini Best Friend

The CAVAPOOCHON Puppy is a Mini Best Friend - a companion pup who is loyal, amusing, and affectionate. While some “Forever Puppies” can be quite sassy, most are silly, easy-going, and fun-loving - especially compared to most small breed dogs. Add to those traits the fact that they are very low to non-shedding, and I think they make up the PERFECT pup if you are looking for a small breed.

One of our past pups at one month old

All colors and Sizes

Pups from our program range in size and color! We have white with darker markings, some champagne colored, some darker apricot, and everywhere in between. Our full grown pups have been as small as 10 lbs, and as large as 20 or so. (The Doodle world can be funny that way.)

We are thankful to have found very loving families for our pups and to have heard back from so many of them over the years. A couple of our puppies even have their own Instagrams!

A very wavy pup

Cavapoochon Coats

The Bichon Frise pup (which make up 25% of our sweet pups, on average) are very low shedding pups, and the mini-poodle (which make up 50% of our pups, on average) are low to non-shedding. This means that, in general, the CAVAPOOCHON puppy is a great dog for homes that have dog allergies and/or sensitivities.

This does not mean that we can guarantee there will be no allergic reaction. In fact, no breeder can. We don’t know what your allergies look like!

BUT, a good rule of thumb is: the wavier the coat, the less shedding there will be.

A Champagne colored pup, at one month, with a flatter coat

This sweet girl’s coat ended up more wavy than pictured here, and her Forever Family has had no issues with allergies or sensitivities at all. That said, her grown coat is WAVY not CURLY.

All pups will have their coats wave up a bit from where they are as pups in our program, with very few of them being as curly as the poodle and very few of them being flat like the Cavalier. Almost all pups will land somewhere in between stick-straight and curly, like humans, with a nice amount of wave and body.

If Allergies are an issue in your home, be sure to let us know!

What to know about small breeds dog

Cavapoochons are a loved mixed breed whose fame does not match their cuteness. These “Forever Pups” are beautiful, to be sure, but what do you need to know about raising them?

Small Breed puppies, like Cavapoochons, are amazing. Their attractiveness is obvious: Cute, Cuddly, Loyal, and they don’t take up much room. Amazing, right?! Not to mention the allergy-friendly component.

But raising a small breed pup is different than raising a large breed pup. Let’s talk about why.

Emotional Needs

The emotional needs of a small breed dog vary widely - as widely as their looks do! A Bassett Hound has little in common with a Bichon Frise, if you know what I mean.

While I cannot claim to be an expert on all small breeds, I can tell you about my beloved Cavapoochon puppies. Here’s what you need to know about these Teeny puppies with Huge hearts.

  • They need love and attention daily. Companionship is their superpower, and while they vary in their amount of SASS, these pups need a lot of love and affirmation.

  • They are eager to please you, and generally yield quickly to scolding. I do not believe in avoiding negative consequences for puppies; on the contrary, a trained puppy is a happy puppy (as they say). BUT these little nuggets of love are so quick to yield to your correction, that you need to be careful not to overdo it.

  • They feed off your mood. If you are anxious, they will be, too.

  • The Zoomies are real. (YouTube it, if you’re unfamiliar and in need of a laugh.) These pups need to “show-off” a bit. Enjoy it. It’s part of their charm.

  • “Separation Anxiety” varies from pup to pup, but a vigilant owner can mitigate almost all inconvenience. There are tools at your disposal, especially, make them LOVE their crate. If it’s not a “bad place” they won’t be as anxious to be there. A cuddle pal with heartbeat (a toy, readily available) or (GASP!) a second puppy is almost always a good idea.

Dietary Needs

Cavapoochon puppies are not always highly food motivated. They can often sneer at a food they’ve loved for months, or decide they don’t need the extra calories for a day or more. Don’t worry. They won’t starve to death - they’re just finicky eaters. What this means for you, though, is that it’s imperative that you provide EXCELLENT nutrition to them and supplement with a multivitamin. (Hands down, no doubt, NuVet is the best. Ask me for more info.)

There is always the occasional Cavapoochon that is a big eater. Don’t worry about that, either. Just keep an eye on their weight as those extra lbs can lead to more problems than a big belly.

Happy Giggle Tails Puppy at play

Exercise and Stimulation

Even though these little pups don’t seem on the surface like they’d be avid hikers, they still are not the laziest bunch. They tend to get more mischievous when left inactive for long periods of time.

Access to engaging toys, chew treats, a “puppy-proof” home to reduce frustration, and a daily walk or two will keep a whole bunch of that frustration at bay. If your puppy seems rambunctious, a round of exercise or a nap is probably in order.

Good Giggle Tails Puppy, learning to stay

Training

Since this breed rarely cracks the 18-20 pound mark, it’s easy to think you have things under control. They are on a leash, after all, and how much harm can they really do?

The fact is that a puppy on a leash does not equal a trained puppy. You and your pup will both find each other MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE if there are some well-defined and consistently applied boundaries.

Whatever rules you make, make them:

  • Reasonable

  • Possible to enforce

  • Clear

  • Consistent

I promise - this will pay off with interest.

Eager to please, our Cavapoochon pups have our hearts

Ok, but, specifically, potty training

Anyone who tells you that potty-training/house-breaking a small breed dog is the same as a large breed dog is either misinformed or lying.

These sweet pups have bladders and bowels a *fraction of the size of their large breed canine counterparts. This means more frequent potty breaks, more accidents, and that more patience is required.

Before you give up on these amazing pets, consider this: All pups eventually “get it” if their family is diligent and consistent. There are tips for this! (I’ll do an additional blog post on this very thing soon!) In short, be sure to cover ANY smell - puppies return to the scene of the crime - and consider a puppy litter box. They have come a long way, baby, and it may be the solution to all your woes. At least, all your puppy house training woes.

Sweet and Happy - Cavapoochons are the BEST

Puppy training is a life-saver!

There are no bad puppies

There are no bad puppies

You’ve seen it: Hero or Heroin has had a *very stressful day. They’ve dealt with their impossible boss, their ungrateful co-workers, couldn’t reach the Doctor’s office about something that’s been bothering them, forgot to pack their kid’s school lunch, and ALL they are looking forward to is a nice relaxing night at home. Pop some popcorn, get on your comfies, cuddle up with your fur-friend, and read a book. But, the fur-friend had a different kind of day.

Door creaks open, and Hero or Heroin sees the reality: cushions torn apart, an “accident” in the middle of their rug, their sherpa-lined new slippers in remnants all over the floor, and foil wrappings of what *looks like chocolate smooshed into the ground.

Your pup can read your tone

Your pup can read your tone

As frustrating as this is, and boy is it ever!, there is no such thing as a bad dog. Only an untrained dog.

Dogs instinctively want to please their owners.

A cushion isn’t so different from a chew toy, and slippers aren’t so different from that squeaky duck toy in their crate, and who doesn’t love chocolate?, and, of course, when you’ve gotta go… you’ve gotta go.

Will this ever end?

Will this ever end?

So, what are you supposed to do?

Often I hear well-intentioned people say something like, don’t worry; they won’t be a puppy forever. And while that is biologically true, those types of behaviors don’t just “go away” on their own. At least not every time.

Puppies and Dogs NEED to understand the boundaries in order to be happy, healthy pets. You need it, yes, but so do they.

There are a lot of options for pet training, but that does not mean that pet training is optional.

You can take them to a Puppy School.

You can read a book/take a class.

You can ask a friend who has a well-mannered dog.

But, and here’s the kicker, the best “method” you find won’t work at all if you don’t DO IT.

It’s going to take effort and consistency. But you can do it! And there is some truth to them outgrowing their puppy stage.

My favorite dog-training videos are Brandon McMillan’s. We all LOVE his Masterclass, and watch it together as a family. His two leash method is a life-saver, and the videos are short enough that you can easily watch them in one sitting.

For us, it’s worth the fee for Masterclass alone.

The Emmy-winning host of "Lucky Dog," Brandon McMillan is an expert trainer dedicated to building relationships between humans and animals. In his MasterClas...

We loved this series of videos, but you may have a different favorite.

It bears repeating: there are a lot of options for dog training out there, but dog training is not OPTIONAL.

Trust me on this.

Happy dog = Happy dog owner

Happy dog = Happy dog owner

This is an exciting day, Giggle Tails friends. Today is the day we begin our blog.

Through the years I have found that people don’t just want to go to a breeder (or a store, yikes!) and pick up their puppy and head home. Occasionally they want some guidance - some tips and tricks along the way. We have amassed quite a collection of information and favorite resources, and we want to share that with you: our Giggle Tails family!

We will also use this blog to update our Subscription List of upcoming litters and happenings at Giggle Tails, and we hope this proves helpful!

Send me a shout out on Facebook or Instagram and let me know what type of content you’d like to see most.

In the meantime, I suppose I will share this newly created YouTube channel - with the disclaimer that I am NO videographer. These are not professionally stylized videos and no sound editor lives in my house, as far as I am aware. Click Here to watch videos of the cutest Giggle Tail puppies ever - the first videos are of Pippa’s litter, our sweet Cavapoochon Puppies - the “forever puppy”.
