How do your dogs/pups live?

Our dogs and our puppies live in a family home, and are loved deeply. There are almost always a few tears shed when pups go home, but we LOVE what we do and are so grateful for the opportunity to raise a family pet that we KNOW will be so well-loved. I know these aren’t the best images below; but they are accurate to our lives.

What health testing do you do?

There are two most important factors when it comes to mixed-breed dogs:

  • one is the health in the pedigree of the dam (mom) - does her family line show signs of illness or disease that would be hard to test for, given the nature of her genetics? We

  • the other is an absolutely perfect and proven stud. When choosing our males, we looked for genetic perfection from coloring to diseases to disposition. Since 50% of each pup will be poodle, it’s imperative that the male show near perfect health and form.

We have carefully chosen our females, and met and researched their family lines as well as interviewed their original breeders and references.

We have also screened our studs against a full health panel for poodles and found them to be in excellent health with perfect dispositions.

We also speak with our veterinarian who is a reproductive specialist and other genetic specialists regularly before dams are brought into our program or a breeding takes place.

We are so certain of our choices that we offer a one-year genetic health guarantee. Any genetic issue that significantly impairs their quality of life will be covered. (This includes: grade 3 or above heart murmurs, eye/vision issues, debilitating locating patella and other issues. This would *not cover mild, common and easily treatable issues such as skin disorders. Please ask for more info about this!

What will their full-grown size be?

This information will be listed in each litter’s section, as the sires may change, but, on average:

Pippa’s Cavapoochons will weigh between 15-20 pounds

Penny’s Cavapoochons will weigh between 12-17 pounds

Lady’s F1b Irish Doodles will weigh between 28-40 pounds

Smokey’s Aussie Doodle Puppies will weigh up to 29 pounds

Molly’s Mini Aussie Doodle Puppies will weigh up to 19 pounds

Our puppies always get the best love and care

Are they good with kids?

AussieDoodles are often good with kids and families, but it should be known that their Australian Shepherd heritage has a strong urge to “lead” and “guide”. They are herding dogs and can “nip” as a result. This behavior can be trained and curbed, but some pups do have this tendency with small kiddos.

We have found through years of experience in dog breeding that puppies, especially while teething, will “nip” at children. This is especially aggravated under two situations: one, if one of the parents is a “herding” breed, such as an Australian Shepherd, or two, if the child is squealing in such a way that the puppy thinks they are enjoying it.

Cavapoochons are a bit more unpredictable. Cavapoochons from a knowledgeable breeder (like us) who have children (also, like us) will responsibly teach their children how to handle young puppies and will safely teach the puppy how to behave with children.

Our F1b Irish Doodles are fantastic family pets and get along well in most any home situations.

Tips and tricks for this are found in our “go-home” packet that we send with all new families when they get their pup.

Are they good with dogs?

Irish Doodles and Aussie doodles typically do very well with other dogs.

Again, for Cavapoochons, not as black and white.

We have found that Cavapoochons who are introduced to other dogs early on (like they are with us) adjust easier to other dogs in the home. The real issue is whether another dog (especially an older, lovably cranky dog) will take to the new feisty cavapoochon puppy.

In our experience, so long as you provide ample room and access to “separate corners”, both of these breeds get along with other dogs remarkably well.

Cats? I don’t know. Because of the cross-contamination possibilities and germ sharing between species, we don’t allow cats in our home. This is to protect our mamas and pups from any extra stress/illness.

Do you allow visits?

No. We do not.

Cavapoochon pups will receive their vaccinations when we feel they are ready, usually at 7 weeks. Bernedoodle pups will receive their vaccinations at 5 and 7 weeks. But, as in human vaccination schedules, this first round of shots does NOT fully vaccinate pets against the illnesses that could prove fatal for such young puppies.

Diseases like Parvo, canine coronavirus, and many others are carried from place to place unbeknownst to their carriers. Most commonly, germs are carried in from feces that was unknowingly attached to the bottom of a shoe (maybe even from a park or walking trail) and those germs can be carried into our kennel.

For the safety of our moms and pups, we do not allow in person visits. At any time. Ever.

We send pictures, videos and are more than happy to do FaceTime/Zoom calls. We want you to know and love your puppy! We just have to do what we can to keep our pups safe.

I don’t live in Colorado or Tennessee. What are my options?

We have a fabulous transportation team that includes us here at Giggle Tails and a group of gals who works closely with our kennel, our moms and our pups. They know our program intimately, we trust them explicitly, and they are very well experienced.

Transportation within the United States is possible. The cost for this varies based on where you are located and how soon we are able to book travel. It usually ranges between $550-750, but please ask for this information as early as possible to keep your costs down. This cost is additional, not included in the price of the puppy.

Local? Or love to fly? We can also arrange pick-up from our home at 8 weeks old or meet you at Knoxville or Nashville Airports with your puppy.

What will my puppies come with?

Your pups will have their dew claws removed, be up to date on vaccinations and deworming, vet checked and will go home with our New Puppy kit. Items in this kit are subject to change, but include health records, a New Puppy Handbook, a blanket with the litter scent, and a few other goodies.

What about microchipping?

We do not currently as a routine microchip the pups. This is primarily because in the past when we microchipped our puppies, there was a great deal of confusion for their new families as to how to change the registration from my vet’s name (who microchips them) into their own name. Since not every family wants a microchip, is inexpensive (usually $35-50 dollars) and can be done routinely at your first vet visit, we decided to let people do it themselves.

Care and Training

As far as regular maintenance is concerned, the biggest thing to keep in mind that dogs with non/low-shed coats will need care and upkeep.

Regular brushing, including use of a comb for matting, bathing and grooming is required. This can often be a very fun experience as you can give your pups different styles and cuts depending on what you like. There are some very fun ideas out there! We stay pretty close to traditional on those things, although we cut their hair pretty short roughly twice per year.

Please find a good groomer! It can make all the difference in the world. Your vet and/or local Facebook doodle pages may have recommendations. We introduce our pups to grooming, bathing and the hair dryer when their confidence and interest are ready for it, usually around 6-7 weeks. Early, regular and “safe” exposure to these things help grooming to not be an anxious activity.

We also make sure that our dogs and puppies receive the very best nutrition while they are with us, supplementing with NuVet to cover any dietary deficiencies they may have. You can read more about our program at the bottom of our “What is a Cavachon?” page, and learn more about NuVet there, too.

Who are the studs?

Wally - beautiful red AKC mini poodle

Wally - Papa to our Cavapoochons

Wally is an AKC registered, fully health-tested miniature poodle, weighing 15 pounds.

Wally’s looks, genetics, disposition, and previous litter make him the perfect stud for our puppies.

What do puppies cost?

Cavapoochons vary in price from $2500-6000 +. The breeders we most highly respect are in the top of that range. We aren’t that high, but fall in the middle.

Bernedoodle puppies vary in price from $3500-6000+. Again, our pups fall in the middle of that range.

Ok, but, why aren’t you just listing a price?

The cost for the breeder varies from litter to litter depending on the amount of veterinary care needed, plus a myriad of other factors. Also, in the past year, costs to breed have risen dramatically, in everything from breeder supplies and advertising to stud fees and medical.

Please contact us for information on the price of the litter of your current interest.

Whew! That was a lot of info!
